What I am grateful for this year…

Posted by: cparkeast on: January 2, 2012

Having had wonderful, loving parents who would never leave or abandon me, nor will they ever stop making sacrifices for me.  Having had an honest, hard-working, family oriented father who set the benchmark for what a man should be. Thanks to him, I have never been interested in addicts, freeloading men who grew up in dysfunctional homes and lazy, can’t-hold-down-a-job type of men who tried to take advantage of me my generosity and kindness.  Thanks to them, I have grown up not knowing the taste of bitterness and envy… or anti-depressants!

I am grateful.

On that note, this site will be closed and a new one started in mid- January. I can’t believe I’ve had over 2,000 hits this past year! The new site will have more of My Favorite things, restaurant reviews and my exhaustive search for the perfect winter shearling boots! Love ‘em.

Happy New Year everyone.

I make a batch of this every weekend and eat it throughout the week. It’s high in protein, low carbs, very filling and best of all cheap and easy to make.  Note: I make this the lazy girl way so I dont scramble the eggs or finish the cooking process in the oven like traditional frittatas.

Ingredients:

Eggs

Veggies and meat of  choice (bacon, ham, pepper, onions, broccoli…)

Olive oil

Optional: cheese

Instructions:

Heat Skillet

Coat the skillet with Olive Oil – spray preferable or use 1 teaspoon

Add  meat and vegetable of choice

When the mix has browned, crack half dozen eggs over the mixture

Poke the yoke for even blend of yolk and egg whites

Lower the heat and let the egg cook through

When almost half cooked, divide the frittata into 4 pieces with spatula and flip over one piece at a time.  Add cheese on top and let it finish cooking

This recipe takes about 7 minutes and I love to add boiled potatoes and ham to this for a very delicious and hearty meal.

David Muir – ABC World News Tonight Anchor… and my LOVE

Posted by: cparkeast on: June 22, 2011

I’ve been quiet lately because I’ve been spending all my free time at work surfing the net for my obsession of the year: David Muir. Oh man, is this guy hot, handsome, sauve, elegant and damn does he dress well.

About a month ago, my mother who thinks George Clooney looks like a thief,  Brad Pitt so-so, and there really is no one in show biz worth looking at since Sean Connery got old, called me one early Saturday evening. “Turn to channel 7, you have to see this guy. His face is a little long and kind of imbalanced but he’s soooo charistmatic and his voice is amazing!” I had to turn the tv on since my Mother never gets the hots for anyone. So, there he is. This guy with incredible voice, great hair and wearing what has to be a custom made Saville Row suit (dont ask how I know this.. okay, I’ll tell you: I dated an old money WASP once who only bought suits made from Kilgour French on Bond Street)…

Okay, I digressed but the first time I saw him I was like okay, nice package but the face is so-so. BUT THEN! I can’t get this guy out of my mind. I walk down the street listening to “Need you now” by Lady Antebellum and think of him, I have a glass of White Burgundy and think of him, I fall asleep imagining that David Muir’s spooning me and singing “Something” ( by the Beatles) and think of him.

So here’s a short bio on this guy: 37, from Syracuse, interned at a local tv station since he was like 12, anchored college news program at Ithaca… thought of going to law school but scratched that. Did some anchoring for local news in Syracuse and Boston then landed a gig as overnight anchor for World News Now and now he’s the weekend anchor of World News. He seems like a logical, and ONLY, choice as Diane Sawyer’s succession.  So anyhoo, I have been spending all my free time watching him on youtube and downloading pics of him in all kind of attire. He looks great in a Kavlar vest!  I was disappointed to read in some sites that he’s gay. Believe me when I say I love my gays and respect their right to love who they want but this one was painful… I’d still have his baby if he wants. Do you think he’s a hottie or a nottie?

Hating myself. PMS and eating like a pig.

Posted by: cparkeast on: June 1, 2011

I woke up in middle of the night craving chicken parm. Could not fall asleep. Looked at the clock and it was 5:30am!  Since I was tossing and turning until after 1 am, my eyes were burning and my body needed sleep even though my mind was alert… alert with thoughts of chicken parm dancing in my PMSing head. Came to work and had my usual: plain yogurt, one tablespoon of Oat Bran and one teaspoon of Activia for flavor and Hazelnut coffee.  By 10:45 I’m starving. I managed to wait until 11:50 before I called in my lunch order. The guy on the phone said it would be ready in 5 minutes! I found myself running across Park Avenue 3  minutes later for my food.

I picked up a bag that weighed about 7 pounds (see pic above) and thought, surely, I will be able to save half for another day. What woman would be able to eat all this?  Anyway, it was delicious. The cheese was slightly under-browned but it was hot and the chicken was delicious and there were plenty of it. The next thing I know, I’m half way done. I should stop, right? Well, maybe one more bite… then another.. .then another… next thing I knew there were about 3 bites left so I figured why the heck save this and finished it all.

Scary thing is I can eat another order of it or I would accept some dessert if someone offered it to me.

I suppose all women have these PMSing moments when we have cravings that has to be satisfied. I suppose all women over-eat then hate themselves but today I am filled with hatred, sadness and pride!!! I just don’t care.  It was good.  I’ll just have to cut down on my fruity alcoholic beverages and be good on splurge day.

Like a glutton, I’m planning my dinner. Definitely pick up some cucumbers and maybe some tuna. Thank goodness I do the Firm or I’d hate to think how much I would weigh. Speaking of the FIRM, maybe I’ll post something on my favorite workout.

Sennoo’s Movie Review – Country Strong

Posted by: cparkeast on: May 31, 2011

Starring Gwyneth Paltro, Leighton Meester, Tim McGraw and some ugly coked out new actor who’s name I can’t be bothered to google.

I want to start this review by explaining why I review movies that came out months ago. Well, I used to be avid moviegoer, took in atleast one movie a week. However, the movie theaters in Manhattan, no matter where you go are filled with degenerates who talk on their cellphone, talk/yell at the movie screen as if the characters can hear them screaming ” Run, get out of there, yo!” These morons usually sneak in little kids to midnight showings of horror flicks and yell at their said kids while stuffing their mouth full of artificially flavored nachos. This along with the bed bug scare turned me off to movie theaters and now I either rent or watch all movies on pay per view.  I also love to borrown dvd’s from the library because they have great selection of foreign flicks that I just love.

Anyway,  this movie was pretty predictable. I hate Gwynneth Paltrow but she looked great and yes, she can sing. I was also shocked that Gossip Girl, Leighton Meester, can also sing and pretty well at that. Who knew? Kim McGraw, who looks just like Aidan Quinn, was okay as well. It was all predictable but the ending was a bit of a shocker. If you want to know how it ended, I’ll tell ya.

Liquor makes everything better! Stay thirsty my friends!!

Posted by: cparkeast on: May 31, 2011

No one loves a good buzz more than me.  I’m not a fall down, puking my guts out, angry drunk who picks fights or flips tables but I like a good drink.  I’m a happy drunk. The only time I even had violent thoughts were when I went to the Springsteen concert several years ago and these drunken, sweaty Jersey girls kept bumping  into to.  First of all, I’m not a Springsteen fan but a friend got these floor tickets from clients so I figured “why not? I dont see too many white trash in my ‘hood…” . Well, there were this muscled and sweaty Jersey girls who outweighed me by like 50 pounds of muscles (again, this was years ago so I was about 124 lbs at 5″6″) and they wee drunk and stoned and kept doing some Springsteen “hop” only White Trash seems to know how to do. They kept bumping their sweat soaked arm against me. Enough was enough, I started to hop and pushed them over a bit. They looked at me, I looked at them and they kinda backed down, surprisingly. But that was the only time I almost got into a a drunken brawl but I digress…

Ever since I had the best Banana Daiquirie at the Hamilton Princess in Bermuda last year, I have been obsessed with this drink.  Unfortunately, most places in NYC serves really weak, insipid and milky BanDaq that left me disappointed. The only BanDaq that almost came close were the ones I had at Cabana in UES.  Anyhoo, my friend S, who is a super hostess with the mostest and the most creative person on this planet surprised me by spiking a the non-alcoholic Banana Drink at her Memorial Day party this weekend.  She bought the Banana drink and a papaya drink from the Papaya King in the UES. For those of you outside NYC, PK is a hot dog chain dive that sells great dogs and different flavored fruity drinks with Papaya being their bestseller hence the name of their joint.

Anyway, S blended the Banana and other flavored drinks with ice and rum and it was GREAT.  Da Bomb! Really satisfied my craving.  Lightbulb!  This gave me an idea: why not spike all drinks that is considered good or “healthy” and make it more enjoyable?  In general, I avoid all fruit juices and drinks because I try to watch my sugar but I will splurge on Margarita’s, Daquiries and other alcholic drinks in the summer!  Really, nothing feels better than sitting outdoors, feeling the wind blow through my hair while watching people walk by with my liquor goggles on! It’s the best! But I digress… again!

Next time you make your weekend smoothies or even buy a ready made smoothie, add some rum or tequila or vodka … healthy and happy making!  Blend some low fat yogurt and some fruit of your choice and a shot of rum and maybe even some protein powder. Why not?

Please do not drive after drinking your weekend breakfast and as always, watch your waistline by limiting your sugar intake where you can and drink responsibly. Lastly: Stay thirsty my friends.

Movie Review – Morning Glory

Posted by: cparkeast on: May 24, 2011

Starring Rachel McAdam, Harrison Ford, Diane Keaton.  Again, another predictable movie about a young executive producer of a morning show who has 6 weeks to turn the ratings around or the show gets canceled.  Can she do it? Will she find love in the arms of a handsome, rich, Yale educated WASP in the process? You know what’s going to happen, right?  There are some funny moments but it was hard to see Harrison’s aging face set in a grimace to play yet another cranky old guy.  After Working Girl, romantic comedies have been box office disappointments for this super-star. Anyone remember Sabrina? Diane Keaton plays a ditzy, chirpy and annoying morning anchor. All in all, great actors in mediocre movie.

Sennoo’s Movie Reviews – the Switch

Posted by: cparkeast on: May 24, 2011

The Switch, starring: Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman.  First of all, this stars Jennifer Aniston so you know it bombed at the box office and whenever you look at her face, you think “oh, poor bitch got dumped by Brad then John Mayer and bunch of other C list losers like Vince Vaughn…”. Anyhoo, this is a movie about two friends Jennifer Anniston and Jason Bateman who is Hawwwter than ever!  Jason’s character is in love with Jennifer but that love is unrequited.. sigh. She decides she is going to find a good looking man with excellent genes to inseminate her so she can finally have a child. Well, Jason Bateman gets Hasselhoff drunk at a party, accidentally spills the cup of … donation and the rest is predictable. It wasn’t great, but it was okay and Jeff Goldblum did an excellent job as Jason’s boss/mentor. He was fun to watch.

Favorite things – Self tanner

Posted by: cparkeast on: May 23, 2011

Even though Summer is taking it’s time coming to NYC, it’s still warm enough to wear shorter skirts. Who wants to show off pasty white legs or put on panyhose… I can’t remember the last time I even bought panyhose, it’s just NOT done in NYC.  So anyway, I find an old tube of the Bath Body’s Bronzing Self Tanning lotion, $15, in my vanity (link at bottom of page) and rubbed some on.  I forgot how much I really like this product for the following reasons:

PRO: natural looking color within few hours, doesn’t streak despite the fact that I exfoliate everyday, doesn’t rub off on clothing and the color looks natural and not orange-y.

CON: has a coconut-ty smell that linger and has a slightly sticky feel.

TIP: I mixed this with my natural moisturizer (50/50 mix) before rubbing on and it seems to absorb better. Avoid knees and elbow and wash hands after use.

Book(series) review – Royal Spyness

Posted by: cparkeast on: April 26, 2011

Royal Blood (A Royal Spyness Mystery)

I was in my local libray and I saw this cover. It appealed to the girly girl in me. I flipped through the pages and the writing seemed good so I borrowed it.   I loved it.  The protagonist,  Lady Georgiana Raddoch (“Georgie”), is like the 39th in line to the throne through her father’s side.  Although she is a distant royal and had the best Swiss education a girl of her background normally gets, she’s reduced to a life of genteel poverty when her brother took over the family seat in Scotland. This book takes place in the 1930′s when the biggest gossip was about the hated American divorcee who controls the King -  we all know where this is headed! Georgie is a clumsy gal who finds herself in one made escape after another while trying to make a living on the sly. Always coming and going is Darcy O’Malley, a charming ne’er do well son of an Irish Lord who also finds himself living in poverty. I suspect Darcy (just the name makes my heart go pitter patter!) is a British spy since he always seems to show up just in time to rescue Georgie no matter where she is and is very vague about how he’s able to afford some of luxuries he seems to enjoy despite claiming lack of funds… hmmm. And yes, he’s described as being devastatngly handsome and charming.

The author, Rhy’s Bowen, does a great job making the characters relatable and likeable and this was one of those books I finished in one setting and couldn’t bear to even take potty breaks! I was delighted to find that this book was 3rd in the series of “Royal Spyness” by Bowen. Well, I ran to the library and got them all and finished the other 3 in record time.

This is a great book to read on the beach, train or plane – nice and light and soooo entertaining.
